The most challenging consequence of being out of a job is the sense that all your talent and skill is being wasted. Furthermore, as the search grows longer, perhaps you fear if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. It is crucial that you make time to not only stay up-to-date and maintain your creative edge, but also find ways to continue to grow even while out of work.
The Unemployed Marketers Group is a new professional networking and volunteer organization aimed at helping you stay sharp. While a large number of wonderful professionals-in-transition groups exist to trade job hunt advice, Unemployed Marketers is different. Our goal is to get you back to doing. The group will tackle marketing projects for organizations like non-profits and budget-crunched for-profits. Potential employers like to see activity; they favor those individuals who refuse to be stagnant. Together we’ll build our skillsets and resumes, and make real-world contributions to worthy organizations.

Brian,
I like the idea. It’s a good way to keep the wheels greased, and maybe do some good in the world. I am working on my schedule to try and attend Wednesday evening.
